MEN IN THE CLUB | "I want to hug you warmly. I want to sleep with you tonight."
In Korea, provocative phrases often appear in perfume advertisements. Many perfume lovers are critical of such phrases, and mock advertisers for using them.
Perfume buyers report, however, that such advertising can be surprisingly effective, and provocative advertisements continue to appear. Sexualised marketing can easily damage a brand’s image though, so at Organ Tale we have typically tried to avoid utilising this sort of content.
Whilst developing a fragrance, we received a sample of a scent called, Code Name: Men In The Club, along with marketing materials from one of the giant fragrance development companies. The composition and concept of the fragrance was created by one of the world’s most popular perfumers. The scent is a woody chypre which is designed to withstand the heat of a nightclub and to radiate sex appeal.
Initially, and because this is normally the sort of marketing that I avoid, I set the scent aside and tried to ignore it. But the fragrance lingered in my mind, and I became convinced that it was exceptional. The remnants of it remained on my jacket for many days, and I found my thoughts returning to it. Eventually, I decided to ask my friends, family and employees for feedback on the scent.
Everyone who sprayed the fragrance universally loved it. My employees insisted that I should produce the scent. One employee really fell in love with it and sprayed it at a party where it got many compliments, including from someone who hates the smell of fragrance altogether. Everyone agreed that the perfume smelled really good.
Responses from women about Men In The Club were particularly positive. Whilst sitting in the lobby of a hotel in Rome, one woman told me that she thought the fragrance had a romantic scent. I decided then to name Men In The Club after the code name that it was initially given. This is an unusual thing to do in the perfume industry.
Personally, I don’t like to distinguish between genders in fragrance, but I would recommend Men In The Club to gentlemen who want to receive compliments from women, who want to hear that they smell good, or who want to show off their confidence and charm.
If you find that hard to believe, I suggest you go and spray this perfume right now to see what I mean.
